Why did you take ballet this quarter? What do you hope to get out of this class? What is your experience with ballet?

I took ballet this quarter to get back into something that I love. I took ballet for several years when I was younger and have always loved to dance. I hope that this class will offer me a way to get back into dance and hopefully take more classes in this area of study. I hope that while taking this class I can experience the benefits of ballet while being reminded of why I loved ballet in the first place. Although I have not danced in a few years, I have some experience, especially in ballet, and hope that this experience helps me succeed in this class.
I signed up for ballet this quarter after resolving my general curiosity last year via the experimental college. My experience was very positive and I decided that only one hour was not enough. After this class is finished I hope to have obtained better dance skills, a better understanding of the art, and a want and need for more ballet! Other than my experience as a tot with ballet, my most recent experience has been through the experimental college the last two quarters.
I started ballet a year ago to support my jazz technique. I had been interested in ballet for years because of it's beauty and because I liked ballet music and performances, but had a feeling it's no use starting ballet if you can't really be good at it unless you start as a kid. Luckily I started anyway, and now I love ballet as much as I love jazz and show dance. I'd like to strengthen my ballet technique so that I can easily put different moves together in simple choreographies and concentrate on actually dancing instead of how my feet and arms move.
I am taking ballet because I love to dance. I started taking Swing and Salsa a few years ago, and took my first quarter of ballet last spring. I started ballet because I wanted to improve the control I have over my body in my other forms of dance. I am taking it again because I enjoyed it so much last year. As everyone else was mentioning, it is nice to have a break from acedamia, the social aspect of life and the rain.
I'm taking ballet because I love to dance and I want to learn every single dance form available. Ballet just looks so effortlessly graceful!
I didn't have any formal ballet training, but I took Introduction to Dance class in my senior year of high school. I loved it, and now I'm here for more.
I am taking ballet this quarter for a multitude of reason...number one is I love dance and ballet is one of my favorite forms. For a while I was taking regular classes (about 3 years, also when i was very little but I don't count that), but with school it has been hard to fit into my schedule this last year, I am realizing how much I am missing it. I am also hoping to break some bad habits and finally learn how to keep in rhythm with the music better.
I love to dance. I took 4 years of different kinds of dance (jazz, ballet, modern, hip hop, salsa) through my high school years. I wished to continue dancing but it was hard when college started. I tried to take dance in my school back in California, but they didn't offer any so I was very happy when I found out UW offered some classes. I think ballet is a very beautiful form of a dance and I'm so glad I get to start from the very beginning with the basics. I hope to clean up my techniques and improve them throughout this quarter.
I am taking ballet this quarter because I love dance. I honnestly can't live without it. I have taken ballet for 5 years on and off. My training also includes jazz, tap, pointe, modern, swing and salsa. I hope that this class will help me to strengthen my technique so I will be ready for dance school auditions this year. I have poor alignment and this effects all of my dance forms. I want to learn where correct alighnment is and be able to work through it. I also want to work on my turnout, stability and jumps and I also want to learn to do a triple (plus) turns. I am really excited to take this class. I would love as many corrections as you will give me.
Ballet is part of my schedule this quarter because I need a jump start back into, not just the world of dance, but into consistent physical activity. I realized after stepping completely away from dance three years ago that not having a physical creative outlet let stress build up in my life. I started ballet at eight and stopped at 21, fed up with the competition and feeling awful about myself physically. The majority of my training was with Cheryl Krown at Vashon Dance Academy. I spent a short summer with the Kirov Ballet school in DC and a year with Marie Chong's company, Arc Dance. I want to leave the class with a love relationship with dance. I want to have fun!
I am taking ballet this quarter because I feel like my dance experience is missing something with only modern, and I want to see if I enjoy ballet, or if it is not for me. I also want to improve my technique and flexibility, and I hope that this will help, since ballet seems to me to be part of the basics. I have had little experience with ballet other than Dance 101 and the few exercises I have done in modern.
I am taking dance, because it's good for my mental health. Moving and focusing on the routine provides a respite from all the stresses of work, school, and relationships. I also feel better when I'm active. I'm taking ballet specifically to develop technique, flexibility, grace, balance. However, I'm also particularly excited by the prospect of "less traditional" ballet.
My previous ballet experiences were not good ones. From age 5 to 14, I studied at demanding schools that were designed to train the next prima ballerinas. This was not my destiny. Therefore, I had little worth to the instructors. I got over it. However, I have always loved watching ballet, and the physical demand and technique is something I miss. I wanted to try it again this quarter with a fresh, more mature perspective. And no more pink polyester leotards.
I signed up for ballet because I actually took ballet lessons when I was 2-5 years old. Unfortunately, I don't remember any of terminologies or technique, yet I still remembered that it was very fun to dance. I always wanted to get back to ballet, but I never had a chance to take lessons. Thus, finally I got a chance to learn ballet! Also, I'd like to surprise my mother who actually let me take the ballet lessons before. She wishes me to dance ballet. I'm thinking to surprise her next time when I go back to Tokyo.
I took this class because I loved ballet when I was little but the studio where I danced at switched everyone to jazz in the third grade thus crushing my hopes of being a ballerina. While I don't have the dream anymore I really wanted to get back into something I loved so much as a child. I really hope to learn a lot from this class and translated into my everyday life by being less clumsy (hopefully).
I took ballet this quarter because I wanted to get back into dancing again. I took ballet class on and off at Bellevue community college for 3 years and recently had to take an entire year off due to work and school. But this quarter I hope to get back into the motions of dancing and improve my moves. I tend to forget to point my toes or one of my toes when doing some type of leap or jump. I also want to focus on my rib cage cause I tend to open it when I lift my arms into 5th high. And lastly, I'd like to hold my turn out better when in center, I especially lose it during fast combos. I know I have the flexibility for turn out but I must greatly improve my muscular strength to hold it... See you in class!
I took my first ballet class in college two years ago and just loved it. I enjoy how difficult it is for me as well as the reward of finally understanding how to do something that has been a struggle. I am very interested in continuing in dance, but that requires building a better foundation, which I hope to achieve through this class.
One of my biggest regrets is not getting into dance sooner. I started dancing just a few years ago and have taken quite a variety of classes (tap, swing, ballroom, hip hop, ballet) but most of them only at a beginning level. I've only taken one year of ballet, though my training began earlier when I got roped into a partnering class by a family friend who owns a studio, which is how I got started dancing to begin with. So, before the last year, my role in ballet was that of a stage prop. In this class, I'm looking to really learn the exact technique that I may not have even known that I was supposed to be doing, like the port de bras explanations that we've had so far. I've never had them explained so precisely. I'm really excited about this class and the challenges, both mental and physical, that it promises.
I'm taking this ballet class because I really enjoy ballet. It looks so pretty, and is fun! Also, ballet works a lot on stretching and teaches you to take care of your body, something I desperately need to learn. Other reasons is that i'm so bogged down by my science classes, where i'm constantly stressed and thinking about what all I have to do that ballet class is a nice break where I can learn to use dance to give my brain a break!
A lot of my time is spent on academics, on reading and writing, and this quarter I wanted to balance out my intense coursework with something artistic. I took ballet to use my body and do something that can be really beautiful. I consistently took ballet classes for about 3 years. However, that was about 8 years ago so I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.
I chose to take ballet this quarter because I took a dance class last quarter and truly enjoyed it. I am excited to learn more about dance, and to train my body to move in ways that it is not used to or comfortable with. I grew up playing soccer year round until I was about 19, and so this is definitely a different type of challenge as far as the body goes.
I am taking ballet because I love dance, but lack any formal training. I am sure ballet will be a challenge, and hope it will provide me with greater balance, strength, flexibility and creative expression.
I am taking ballet this quarter because I really enjoy dancing. I think ballet is an especially beautiful form of dance because it is so precise and classical. The only experience I have had in ballet this far is through Dance 101. I'm really excited to learn more this quarter!
I tried ballet when I was a little kid and HATED it--I hated the rules, I hated everything...but when I was encouraged to take it in high school for the school musical, I found to my surprise that I absolutely loved it. It is a way to step outside of my busy life, it is like meditation in many ways, and I am able to just enjoy the fact that I have this body that can do this cool stuff, or try to anyways, and--possibly the most shallow but most honest answer: it makes me feel beautiful. I don't think I'm some amazing dancer or anything, but the act of working towards the creation of beauty, to embody beauty, makes me feel beautiful! And I love that:)
I took a few dance classes (ballet, tap, and poms) when I was about 5 or 6, but my career came to an unexpected end when I refused to put on my seat belt one day on the way to class and my mom said that we weren't going anywhere unless I did... and then I didn't go back. I occupied myself by playing soccer for the next 9 years and cheerleading off and on, but always wanted to go back to dancing. When I was a sophomore in high school I decided that after soccer season I was going back to ballet, and from there on it became my life. I started taking ballet and jazz classes, and then eventually tap. By the end of my senior year I was dancing about 12 hours a week. My first year of college involved hardly any dancing, but since then I've tried to take at least one dance class every quarter in an attempt to keep myself sane.
I find that the structure of ballet movements and classes really help me to organize my thoughts and relax. There is so much involved in the technique that there is always something to work on. You can always be improving. I love it.
My friend who is a professional ballet dancer invited me to her concert three years ago in New York.
It was amazing.
This influences me to take several ballet classes at the University of Washington. After my graduation, I will be moving to LA for fashion school at FIDM. I see similarity between fashion and dance.
I am interested in exploring more about shape, silhouette, and texture that is inherted within dancing and fashion. I am also hoping to gain understanding on my body manual and use each part correctly.
I didn't really start enjoying ballet until about a year ago. Prior to that I would only take it sparingly and because I had to for the dance major. As I improve I am learning to like it more, and like the way it can help my other dancing. Sometimes I can check out during class because my brain tends to understand things before my body. Ballet tends to make it easier to focus on something, because over the years I've heard so many elements of every move and position that there's always something to think about. There's always something I can work towards.
I took ballet this quarter because I love dancing and moving. I love the instruction that I can receive while at the U.W. This is a class that is fun and energizing and allows me to leave my worries at the door and work on myself, while making friends, and having fun. I love dance.
